We originally plan on a photo-shoot at a nearby park, but it has been raining all weekend.  Some part of Utah even had some flash flood warning.  So when Aaron booked the photo-shoot for Saturday, his family was excited because they have never had a formal photo taken before, especially since their new baby was born.  And he might not have another day off.

Since we had a studio in Plain City it was no problem, we can shoot anytime.  Day or Night, rain or snow!  Our studio is always there if needed.  I grabbed my D7000 and my 50mm f1.4 and I was ready to go to work!  I know a lot of people prefer to shoot outside, but who doesn’t.  You have to be able to adapt on the fly.

We used a gray backdrop and did a 3 light setup. One keylight, a fill light and a hair light. Using our favorite Westcott Rapid Box 26″ Octa Softbox with  Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight Flash  and for Trigger we used Yongnuo YN-622N.  It all work awesome together!

I think the key for a happy family shoot is to be prepared, have everything ready before your client shows up.  I had all my batteries charged for all my flashes, did a preflash check using my wife as a model, since all my flash are set to manual. Make sure all my lens are clean and wipe down.  Had most of the pose I wanted to do in my head. So when its time to shoot, I don’t have to mess with a lot of setting.  Instead, I can focus on the family and try to give them the best experience possible.  Also if you get them in and out fast, the parents will appreciated, before the kids/baby have a melt down.

Overall it went well as plan, the kids did great.  Aaron and his family was very cooperative, they brought a change of clothes and even their kids favorite toys.  They have the cutest baby ever!  Thank You Aaron and Tara for letting me be your Photography.
