I highly recommend buying at least three Yongnuo YN685 Speedlite($105 each) and a YN-622N radio transceiver($44) and then you are set for long time.

Weather you just starting out or a season pro. This system is… 1. portable(lightweight) 2. affordable 3. reliable

And the most important thing is that now you are using an off-camera flash!  Now the trick is to balance your speedlite with the ambiance light.

I have been battle testing this system out in the field for years now. The YN685 flash have more output(according to the guide numbers, 197′ vs 180′ at ISO 100 at 200mm) than the Nikon SB-5000($600) without the high dollar price. It also has a built-in radio which is one less thing to buy.

By putting the YN-622N radio on top of your camera, you now have control of the light output without physically touching your speedlite.  Therefore you save time on setup, which equals to more photo produce, it’s a WIN-WIN.

Warning** On the Nikon D750 hotshoe, the Yongnuo YN-622N will not align correctly therefore it will not fire the flash or cause a misfires.  The trick is to push the transceiver all the way in and then tighten it down, and then finally back it off until you hear a click for a positive alignment.

Here are some shots using the Yongnuo wireless flash system along with the Nikon D750 and Westcott Rapid Box 26″ Octa Softbox.

Good lighting is the key to good photography so now you are in charge of your lights.
