If you know me by now, you know that snowboarding is one of my favorite sport to photograph along with Ice hockey!  Maybe I’m a little bias because I did both of the sport and really enjoy them.  Anywho, I went up to Snowbasin on Saturday to check out the event call, “The SLUG Games: Battle At The Basin”.  It’s super cool, amateur ski and snowboard contest using jam style.  First they drop in and get shot out of a cannon that’s in a form of a tank.  Than they have a two long flat rail that is gap and a flat-down-flat box to pick from.  The top five from each heat move onto the final.  I remembered the good old days when I used to compete in slopestyle and how much fun it was.

I had with me the Nikon D7000 with the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR1 (This lens stay married to this camera) and my Panasonic GH3 with the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens attached.  I brought four flash trying to over power the sun.  It worked alright in full power.  But next time I will bring six flashes, I think it will work better.  Anyways, check out the photo below as I tried to expose for the sky, The weather was cloudy and stormy, so no blue sky.

This Jam session is not about speed, it’s all about style!

My favorite thing about snowboarding is that anything could happen, and its never predictable or boring.  For example, My flash setup got crash into and broke one of my wireless receiver.  When I got home I took it apart and did some soldering and repaired it, its awesome when you have a background of an aerospace technician.

I had an awesome time shooting this event and meeting some really neat people from Slug magazine!  I hope they put on more event like this in the future.  Thanks guys for putting this on!
